印度英语里的“tenth standard”是什么意思？

印度英语用 standard 表示年级，美式英语叫 grade，英式英语叫 year。所以 tenth standard 相当于美式的 10 年级，twelfth standard 相当于 12 年级。这两个年级在印度分量最重：初三（Class X）和高三（Class XII）结束时要参加全国或各邦的统一大考（CBSE、ICSE 或各邦考委会）。高三成绩直接决定能上哪所大学、能选什么专业，甚至影响家庭安排婚姻时的考量。印度家庭往往会为这两场大考筹划多年。
